Why does every errors in ABB RS fist been fixed in next release.

If i find an error in other CAD systems they will make a fix to download "but but but" ........... ABB always says that it will be fixed in next release......... but when when when when does it come.

I'ts just not okay.imageimageimage

It has been soo since RS 2.0 Wake up sweden. We cant wait to next relese. Look at other CAD/CAM products like PRO-e, Solidworks, mastercam or EdgeCam.

I know i wont get any answer but think about it and make some moves

    Hi Klaus,

Thank you for your input. Developing RobotStudio with a limited team is a trade-off between developing new features, and fixing bugs, whilst trying to follow the release cycle of RobotWare. RobotWare IRC5 has had roughly two major releases per year, and so has RobotStudio for IRC5.

There have been some fixes for critical problems for RobotStudio on the IRC5 track, but you are completely right in that we have not planned for any patches. Hopefully, we will be able to change that in the future and to provide patches that correct not only the most critical problems, but also other problems.

The current plan is to release RobotStudio 5.09 in Q2 2007 and we are already now considering releasing a patch during early autumn. Please note that this is only plans and should not be considered as official release information, these dates are subject to change.

Unfortunately, we are currently not be able to provide any patches or fixes for RobotStudio 5.08 or 5.08.01 since we are so close to release of RobotStudio 5.09.

Is there any problem in particular that prevents you from working successfully in RobotStudio?

    Kind regards,

    Henrik Berlin

    Hi Klaus and everyone,

This far we have not provided any hot-fixes or service packs for RS other than in a few extreme cases. We have instead collected reported bugs in each release and provided a number of fixes together with new features in the next release. We have tried to provide a new release about every 6 months.

We are now reviewing this policy and are very open to suggestions on how we could serve you guys better. Please let us have your thoughts on the matter.

I have quite a few problems in RS that I would like fixed.  They probably do not stop me from getting the job done, but are just annoying and slow me down.

    • RS 5.08 just crashes by either becoming unstable or producing an encountered problem.  I have had this happen many times.  Recently it seems to be related to the Event Manager.  Once I clear out the Event Manager and reload all the events back in, it will run ok for a while.
    • The RobotStudio Support Tool does not load.  In RS 5.07 I could run the RS Support Tool to bundle all of my error dumps to send them away.  In RS 5.08 I get a dialog box saying RSSystemInfo has encountered a problem and needs to close.  This is on a brand new install on a newly formatted PC.
    • Some objects do not appear in the graphics window or do not dissapear once they are deleted.  The work around I have found for this is to select 'Graphic Appearance' on another object and then hit OK.  This seems to update the graphic window.
    • When calling Macros from the event manager using a digital output, they seem to get called twice.
    • Bodies do not retain names when geometry is imported.
    • I can not open a station without all of the controllers starting up.  If i have a station with 10 controllers, they all startup when i load the station.  In RS 3 the controllers would go to the state they were in when the station was saved.
    • In the Mechanism Joint Log Dialog if you try to type a value like 0.25 in the step field you end up with .250.1, as when you type the zero it automatically puts a 0.1 in there for you.
    • When rotating around a WORLD x, y, z using the Rotate dialog box the values change back to zero after pressing apply, which means you have to select the point again to rotate around it.
    • Acis .sat files exported do not seem to be able to be opened in any other program.  Which version of sat are they exported as?

If you tell me where all the error dumps are stored, i can email them to you so you can take a look at them.

I you need any more information let me know?

    Regards,

One other thing that annoys me is the toolbars.  You get used to the buttons being in a specific location and then all of a sudden they automatically move to somewhere else.  Not sure why this happens?

      Hi
I had kind of the same problem with crashes and graphical issues running OpenGL as render on a DualCore machine. So I would suggest you to switch to Direct3D render instead(if you not allready running that) and you do that in tools
enderer (you need to restart RS)

Support tool not running is a bugg that I have reported.

When you export a geometry you will be able to select which acis version to export to.
If you want to convert to other versions you can download Hoops Viewer from spatial (www.spatial.com).

      This is fixed in 5.08.01.

Hmm, does it help to just force a redraw (by for example minimizing and restoring RS)?
      • Bodies do not retain names when geometry is imported.
If you send me a simple example file I could take a look at that.
      • Acis .sat files exported do not seem to be able to be opened in any other program.  Which version of sat are they exported as?

RS 5.08 exports to Acis R16 by default. But you can choose an earlier version in the "Save as type" dropdown in the Save As dialog.
