InterLink & WW SDK for Vista [WebWare SDK]

Please, do you know when InterLink or WebWare SDK for Vista will be available for a PC running Windows Vista ?

1) The most urgent is InterLink (of course).

Note: InterLink under Vista is necessary for runtime applications (developed with WW SDK and connected to ABB robots) running on a PC under Vista.

2) Then WebWare SDK should be nice to develop and test directly under Vista.

Thank you.

  • Is there someone know this? I also want to know if it's possible run webware SDK application in vista OS....

  • Interlink/webWare is not tested on VISTA and therefore does not support VISTA.

At the moment there are no plans to include VISTA support for WebWare since this would require a major redesign of the product.

  • I know you say there are no plans to include vista yet but, but it is very difficult to obtain a new pc with XP on already and windows intend to withdraw support for XP as soon as they can, does these mean Webware will be left to become obsolete? Do you know if there are any plans to bring out a replacement product?<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • Hi (sorry for the late reply been on vacation for a couple of weeks)

The latest news from Microsoft is that they will support Windows XP Proffessional until 8th of April 2014. So we are safe there for another 6 years image.

The replacement product is Robot Application Builder. But that only supports IRC5 RobotWare.

This is not fully true.  Yes, it is true that Microsoft will support Windows XP Professional until 8th of April 2014, but they will stop selling licenses for XP on June 30th 2008.  (Yes, thats next month.)

On June 30th, no new Retail or OEM license will be sold.  There is also a question of whether Microsoft will allow rolling back Vista Licenses to XP.

Currently, Microsoft allows us to roll back XP licenses to 2K for certain costomers.   Our licensing Rep at Microsoft as of yesterday, told us in a telecom that there is no plan in place to allow for rolling back Vista licenses to XP.

We are a VAR and install XP on virtually all of our machines.  As of July, we will either have to start shipping Vista with our solutions or we will have to stockpile copies of XP licenses.

  • Has there been any update to this topic regarding Vista?

How is ABB planning on allowing us to communicate to the S4C+ controllers when XP can no longer be purchased?  We will have retrofits which will require replacing the computer, and we will won't have the option of using XP.

    • This is obviously problematic, but unfortunately the WebWare products are approaching their technological limits and support for Windows Vista is judged to be "unfeasible".  Since Robotics no longer selling S4C+ controllers it is not likely new products supporting communication with S4C+ will be developed. To secure access to XP licenses, one way or the other, is probably the only way to go.
