Robot Studio External Axis for Positioning

Hello Everyone
I want to create a system which uses an external axis, but only for positioning the robot. It could be controlled with I/O signals and doesnt have to calculate the external axis within the controler.
However, when i attach my robot base to the external axis, it says that i MUST USE the external axis controller option.
Is there a way to simulate this kind of positioning axis without the external axis option?
Thanks for your advice.
Kind regards, Matthias

Hello,
I have this same question. Did you ever figure out if it's possible?

you can just make you axis as a Device under "Create mechanism".
Then simply attache the robot to the mechanism, make a smart component and connect the signals.
If you restart the robot. then don't update the position and disconnect the robot.0
