Doubt with I/O

Hello. I want to simulate a input in my system, that in the future will be real. I discovered that i need to defined a new unit for IO. Can someone explained with and how that will effect when i pass to the real world? thanks

    you just add IO board and signals in VC as in the real controller. Right click on input and make the signal simulate
