Physics limitations, any work around?

Hi, I have been trying to use a parallel two fingered gripper to pic a geometry through physics. The problem is that it hardly works, once in a blue moon (gemoetry just jumps off somewhere). As to fix this i tried to simply turn off the physical aspect of the geometry, attach it to the gripper, then release it and turn physical aspect on again on the geometry. This does not actually work as the object shots back to the position that the physics were turned off.
Is there any work around for this, to keep the position and then reinitiate physics of the geometry? There's no option for it in the properties for the PhysicsControl.
