[RS 2019.5.5] The name and/or the path is too long

Hello,
I've updated RS to 2019.5.5. Now when I backup my virtual controller, I've got this error:
6700-122950_VC (Station): Backup failed. The name and/or the path is too long. Please select a shorter name and/or path

Even If I choose C:\Temp path.
This worked well with 2019.3 with the same controller and station.

Version 7.0.8747.0636
RobotWare 6.08.01.00

  • Hello there,

I just tried backing up a station in RS2019.5.5 and it worked without any issue.

    Try reinstalling perhaps?

  • How does the default path look like for RobotStudio in your case by the way?

I have two controllers in the same station. Once backup well while other failed.
I ask the same path for the two.
  • What is your controller called them?

They have nearly the same name.
They are in the same folder.
    MyStationFolder\Virtual Controllers\

  • Strange.

I would need a P&G of that station to troubleshoot it further, but since it fails to backup I realize that that request would be difficult to fulfill.. :)

I will ask around, see what I can find out.

  • Just to be sure, you can't create a P&G of the station, can you?

    I can't.
I'll test to reproduce it with new one. And tell you how to reproduce.
But I think it's related to unpack with two controllers bug too. (this one is not unpacked)

I have seen this happen when you try and create a backup in a folder that has too long a path like "C:\My Documents\Folder 1\Folder 2\Folder 3\Folder 4\Folder 5\Folder 6\Folder 7\A long folder name that causes the problem"  Trying creating the backup in a folder like C:\My Documents and see if it works?  the combined number of characters in that long path will cause the problem.

never mind I just re-read your post you did that with C:\temp

    Hello,
I found what is causing this.
In the Home folder there is other folder with sample code. These contribute to get too long folder name in backup.
Is it possible to add the file causing error in report message?
