Matlab and IRC5

hello to forum members.
I am trying to interface PC (matlab program) with IRC5 controller. the specs are as mentioned:
                 Main Computer Board Type: DSQC 623
                 CPU Pentium M at 1300 MHZ
                 RobotWare : "5.07.1025.01"  
apparently there is a Serial Communication port on front of the main computer module for socket communication. but for rapid program no socket relevant libraries are available in techpendant like socketbind, socketaccept etc.
if someone guide me that should I buy a pc interface card also for this computer module and robotware version. or just need for some upgradation of robotware for serial communication.  which robotware version will be compatible with this computer module.
