EGM concept and simulation

Hello to all, we would like to test egm functionality of our robot but we don't have any external sensors that would communicate with robot. What are our options, can we simulate this sensor using PC that would be connected to IRC5? What software or application we would need for such test? I could see that people are installing ROS on their devices and than somehow simulate these sensors' information. Thanks in advance.
