Smart Component to change a Part Color (not Highlight)

How to use Smart Component to change a Childs color permanently - not just highlight. It seems in 2022.3.1 once a new part is created that you want to change its color permeantly, it is not possible with Highlight. Is there a smart component or one that can be created to work like Highlight does, but leave the color selection as the last applied color?

Can Highlight be developed further to include a Highlight check box, when clear the color stays. and does not revert back to its previous color? <-- Suggestion.
