Independant reset of external actuator

Hi, 

I noticed that command "IndReset LATHE,1" is not resetting the sensor value to make sure the external drive is not rewinding back to his starting position. In the configuration-->motion --> transmission window the settings have values like for gear ratio=-51.42, gear high=5142857 and for gear low=-10000. After putting the gear low value same as gear high, the IndReset seems to work. What is the importance of these settings and what values need to be used?
