Update RobotWare to a newer version

Hi everyone,
I’ve written a RAPID program that creates an automated weekly backup on my ABB robot and successfully stores it in the designated backup folder. The program runs smoothly—but only on firmware version 05.14.XX.XX or newer. Robots with older versions, like 05.12.XX.XX, currently can’t execute this function since they lack the ability to trigger a backup via digital input, a feature only available in the newer versions.
My question to you all: Does anyone know if it’s possible to upgrade my robots from version 05.12.XX.XX to at least version 05.14.XX.XX so the program can run on those devices as well? If anyone has experience with this, I’d really appreciate any insights on the necessary steps and requirements for such an upgrade!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hallo, I've found a DVD containing RW5.14.03 and in the realease notes is said, that it is possible to upgrade to that version from RW5.09 on. The give a document "Migration Guide RW 5.05 – RW 5.06 – RW 5.08 – RW
5.09 – RW 5.10” (RP5.10 - 053) – RW5.14 (RP5.14-043)" but I cannot find this anywhere (DVD or online library)

I’ve been searching on Google and YouTube, but I can’t find anything, and it shouldn’t be that hard to find a step-by-step guide for this, right?
Nevertheless, thank you!

It should be as simple as creating the system from a backup, and then modify it in the system builder, indicating the newer version of the Robotware. Then you can download that system and restart using Start Boot Application option selected. You can then select that system to boot into.Lee Justice1

Here’s how I would proceed:
- Create a new project from the backup in the desired version.
- Make the necessary program changes.
- Save this backup and transfer it to the robot running RW version 5.12.XX.XX.
Could this approach work?

The robot system will not get updated by a restore. The robotware needs to be installed into the controller. It would most likely fail to do a restore because the installed robotware doesn't match the backup.Lee Justice0

Hi ...I agree with lemster68 said:The robot system will not get updated by a restore. The robotware needs to be installed into the controller. It would most likely fail to do a restore because the installed robotware doesn't match the backup. The correct way to upgrade the RW version is to create a new system. I suggest RW 5.16 for this purpose. I didn't have a good impression with 5.30 on our older robots.Creating the system is very simple and can be found in the 'Operating manual - The System Builder' in a search for 'RobotWare' to learn more.Good work.0
