External Axis Problems

I am having unresolved problems relating to the mechanism modeller in RS.
I am trying to model a robot and gantry system in RS using the mechanism modeller. The real system has the Electronically Linked Motors option and the axes are set up in the following way:
Axis 1 - X direction (master)
Axis 2 - Y direction
Axis 3 - Z direction
Axis 4 - X direction (slave)
I am unable to set up Axis 4 using the mechanism modeller as each parent and child link must be unique(p459 RS manual). I have tried to add the X-axis link again with a different name but this is not possible. Trying to create Axis 4 as slave to Axis 1 (de-selecting "Active" checkbox) results in a fatal error:
"An unhandled exception has occurred. PLease report using the RobotStudio System Info Tool. The application is now in an undefined state. We recommend you exit the application....."

I am able to model the gantry, but only with 3 axes. Because the real system is set-up with 4 axes, I am unable to teach target points or program offline.
