connecting other device to robot

hi, i have some question (..again..!)
- i use the screw(with rotary) and a sensor. robot will move if it receive the trigger from the rotary and the sensor. so, how i connect them?
- can the controller of the robot handle all of my mechanism?(sensor activation, processing the pulse from rotary, and so on --> like PLC)
