How to modify system

Hi all,

I want to modify robot system with robotstudio online. Is the way to back up the system in controller, and then transfer it into the computer which is connected to controller, modify this system and load it back to controller. Or directly find the system in controller and modify it, but I don't how to do it. Can you please help me out.

Thanks

Zack

  • Hi,

I would recommend you to get in touch with ABB before changing the system in order not to cause any production stops. In particular, you should not change RobotWare version, since there might be changes that affects your particular use of the system.

What changes do you want to do? If you want to add more options to the system you need to buy a new controller module key & drive module key from ABB.

If the changes you want to do are 'allowed' by your current keys, then you can try the following. First of all you need to take a backup of your system.

Then, the easiest option is if you still have the original system on your PC. Then you can modify it with System Builder in RSO and download it again. I suppose this option might not be available for you.

The second best option, which is also fairly easy, is to create a new system using System Builder in RSO and the keys from your system. Then you can download the system to the controller and restore the backup. The keys are available in the file system.xml in the root of the backup. The keys specify in detail the options that matches your hardware and that you are entitled to use. Only limited changes are allowed by the keys. If you want to add a software option, for instance, you will need a new key.

But, again, talk to your local service technician at ABB first.
