A client is a software that can read from OPC Server(which is supplied by the manufacture)
Some example of clients (there is a lot of them)
- Intouch
- A software written by your self.

A free demo client with both Data Access and Alarm and Event funtionality can be obtained at:
http://www.softing.com/home/en/industrial-automation/downloa ds/drivers-demos.php?navanchor=3010451
registration is required. Also, KepWare has a nice, easy to use DA only client that can be downloaded as part of their KepServer packge.
