problems with creating system from layout

I am not able to create a system from layout. Everytime I try to do this robot studio(5.10) wants to quit with a fatal error. I am not able to make any changes to an exisitng system either. Any time I try to do this it comes up with an error on not being able to open up the XML file and tries to quit Robot studio.

Any suggestions on what could cause this?
