RS 5.11 is painfully slow!

3GHz processor, 2GB RAM, XP SP3.

5.11 is so slow on my PC that it is unuseable.

The following timings are typical after a reboot and with no other applications running:

RS Startup 20 seconds.

Open a 1,696 kB station which was originally built in RS 5.10, but has since been loaded into 5.11 and resaved:

    30 seconds until 'Loaded station ... successfully' message
    +23 seconds until controller status green
    +37 seconds until layout browser populated
    +16 seconds until cell displayed in graphics window

Total load time = 106 seconds.

In Offline tab, time for RAPID editor to open and display a module containing 1 procedure with a total of 20 lines of code: 48 seconds.

Time taken by the editor to respond to mouse or keyboard: can be instant, but is often 1 to 2 seconds.

Time taken to apply a minor change and check the module: 40 seconds.

Time for virtual FlexPendant to open: 45 seconds.

Time to single-step in manual or auto from one comment-line to another (so no motion involved): 10 seconds

I am not too concerned about the startup and load times as these apply only once per session, but the slow response to the other actions is making it impossible to work effectively.

Graphics processing speed does not seem to be a problem  as panning, zooming and rotating are instantaneous.

5.10 was so much faster on my PC.

Is anyone else having a similar experience with 5.11?

Can anyone suggest a method of speeding things up?

    Try to run the following script available on the RobotStudio DVD and let me know if it makes a difference or not:

     

    <RobotWare/RobotStudio 5.11 DVD>UtilityReg_ComServer_NetScan.cmd

    That fixed the problem. After rebooting then running the script the following timings were achieved:

    RS Startup 25 seconds.

    Open a 1,696 kB station which was originally built in RS 5.10, but has since been loaded into 5.11 and resaved:

        +10 seconds until controller status green
        +8 seconds until layout browser populated
        +7 seconds until cell displayed in graphics window

    Total load time = 55 seconds.

    In Offline tab, time for RAPID editor to open and display a module containing 1 procedure with a total of 20 lines of code: 5 seconds.

    Time taken by the editor to respond to mouse or keyboard: instantaneous.

    Time taken to apply a minor change and check the module: 3 seconds.

    Time for virtual FlexPendant to open: 15 seconds.

    Time to single-step in manual or auto from one comment-line to another (so no motion involved): instantaneous.
