Importing parts in 5.12

Wow - lots of forum postings lately!

I am having trouble importing parts into RS 5.12.  In 5.11, I would use ProE to save as a STEP file, and that worked well.  It seems that 5.12 did away with STEP files, and I am left with .sat, .stl, and .wrl.  None of these work for me.  .stl and .wrl give an error saying it cannot import the part, and .sat files successfully import, but the part is invisible.  Please advise.

  • Hi,
The CAD import should be the same in 5.12 as in 5.11. Are you sure your license for the STEP converter is valid?

  • Per,  I tried switching to OpenGL, but it did not change anything.

Anders, please explain - is the step converter a part of RS, or external?  I am confident that the ProE license is valid.

When I ordered RS, I did not buy the Cad converter, I only bought RS and ArcWeld PowerPac.  Is this the problem?

Also, when I import the .sat file, I get an error that reads: "Geometry (ACIS) warning 60013, Tolerances of restored file do not match current tolerances"  Perhaps this is why the part is not visible.

    Hi
To be able to use the step converter in RS you need a license for that.

To test that your acis file is ok you can download Hoops 3D part viewer from spatial (it's free)

    By the way
Did you restart RS after you have changed to OpenGL?

  • After trying to open the file in Hoops 3D, I had the same problem.  The part was not visible, which leads me to believe this is a ProE problem, not a RS problem.

Also, the license to use the step converter, is that part of the cad converter pack?
