Analog output to Smart component

In RS, how do I bind an analog output to a motion in a smart component?

Sorry, it might be trivial, but there are so many buttons, features & quircks in the smart components, that I think you have to be a developer to:

A: Understand the philosophy of the smart components and their use and limitations.
B: Troubleshoot it when it does not behave as expected.
