1 encoder for two robots
Dear All,
A? A? A? A? A?Hello all, now we're developing to add two robots together on the same conveyor using conveyor tracking ( we use DSQC 377A ). In our opinion, this problem should be done with two solutions: using 1 encoder for two robots or using 2 encoder one for each robot. could you give me advise which is the best between two solutions?A?
Thank you for your kind attention,
Warm Regards,
SuminA?

The important thing to think about in this case:<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
You can only have one connection against the same DSQC 377 unit.
This makes the case with 2 robots on one encoder a problem....
If you use two encoders on the same conveyor you must make sure to modify the FeildBus command parameter on one of the two robots so that you inform the DSQC 377 of it's current DeviceNet Master address. Otherwise you will end up with very strange behaviour, since both the DSQC 377 modules will get it's time sync from one robot! That is not good in all situations :-)

Hello Zealous,
Thank for your reply, based on your reply we should consider for each situation. if we want to use 2 encoder do you mean that we have to make a difference for both dsqc 377A device net address? How about if we use 1 encoder, should we consider for noise in cable line if we use long cable?

You can get standalone encoder splitter units (not ABB) which will take one encoder and give 2 isolated sets of signals. I just can't remember who makes them..but they work very well indeed. You will need one encoder card in each robot still, but at least you can use just one encoder.0
