ABB Virtual Controller encounters a problem

I am using Robot Studio 5.12. I  am suddenly getting Microsoft's "Send Don't Send" box when I try to load an exsisting station. The box says "ABB Virtual Controller has encountered  a problem and needs to close".  Robot studio hangs at this point, at which  I have to use  the task manager to get out. Nothing as far as I know has changed since the last time I used it.
 

I have performed an (I) Start which  so far has not remedied the situation.
