Gate Signal?

On robots that I used in the past there was a hard wired set of contacts that were titled Gate.  I could use this set of contacts to pause the robot, enable the brakes, and shut off motors in the event that a safety guard door is opened during robot movement.  The robots we are getting have the Devicenet option.  What I am interested in knowing is does ABB have any hard wired contacts besides the EStop contacts that can be used to essentially pause the robot and not EStop the robot?  Thanks.

  • I think you want the quickstop input. Possibly softstop.

You can configure any digital input to cause a quickstop or softstop. I'm pretty sure thats true for inputs over devicenet also.

  • Ok, so there is no way to use discreet I/O for this signal?  It must be done through the devicenet?  Thanks.
  • Sorry for the mis-understanding. I was just saying it was possible over device net as well.

If you have an IO board in the controller cabinet you can use any of those. Either way all you do is create the Signal (Configuration / I/O / Signal) and then configure it as a system input with the action quick stop. I'm pretty sure most irc5 cabinets still come with an IO board by default.
  • there are safety connectors X1 X2 X6 X7 inside the IRC5,  used for hardwiring E-stop / soft stop, but even i need the exact pin configurations for it. Would be really grateful if smeone could share ??

  • Hi

This information is in the IRC5 Circuit Diagrams Manual on the sheets titled Emergency Stop, and Safety Stop (page number depend on the revison of the manual you have).
