Background task does not update I/O window

My background task resets some digital outputs when power to process tooling is killed, for example by an emergency stop. This prevents the tooling from starting unexpectedly when the power is re-enabled.
If the operator tries to switch on one of these outputs via the Flexpendant 'Inputs and Outputs' window while the power is off, the output status displays as '1' although the background task has reset the output. It is necessary to scroll down/up or switch screens to refresh the display.
Is there a way for the background program to force the screen to refresh after switching an output?
Thanks,
Kevin
