RAPID code not included in .rsstn file?

< ="utf-8">When sharing a .rsstn file, I've noticed RAPID programs not to be included. Is packing a scene the only decent way to share scenes? I'm keen on using Dropbox such that I can work on my scenes from a number of machines, and hopefully collaborate on those scenes with a number of people. Any pointers towards a smoother workflow are *much* appreciated!

  • To save both the RobotStudio station (the 3D environment) and the RAPID code, you should use "Pack & Go".

  • Dear Anders S,

    That is unreasonably impractical.
Its a huge oversight in an otherwise impressive piece of software if you ask me...
Its far too easy to loose a lot of work this way.
The status of whether the RAPID code is saved or not is completely unclear.
Certainly something that should be adressed in a more professional fashion.
Pack and go is a very useful feature, but to save your damn code? Seriously...

  • The RAPID code belongs to the Virtual Controller, which not is part of the RobotStudio station (.rsstn file). The RS station only has a "pointer" to one or more Virtual Controllers that should be used in the station. A Virtual Controller can actually be used in multiple stations (but not at the same time).
The Virtual Controller behaves as a real ABB robot controller and has the same structure with program modules, system modules configuration files etc. Therefore is it not so easy to just save the "damn" code. First you must decide what should be saved, one specific module (could be hundreds in a controller), the complete program, or the complete system with configuration files etc. In the Offline tab (Online for real robots) you will find tools for saving on all this levels.

  • I see; your saying this is intentional...
As a novice I found out the hard way I guess ;)
Thanks for explaining the rational Anders, I do appreciate that!

  • YouA're Welcome!
And we are aware of that we need to improve (and make it clearer) the ways we save different data (station data, controller data etc.) in RobotStudio. So you will see improvements in this area in future releases.
