Weld Problem

Dear all,

I have this problem with my ABB Robot IRC5. It won't weld in automatic mode. It always says AW_ARC_IGNI_ERROR and need to check my welding equipment.  I use ESAB_W8. I use jig for standardizing the wire feeder setting when teaching point or when start to weld. I make sure also the  gas supply exist to wire feeder. But still i fail. What could be the cause?

Thankyou and regards,

  • Hi,

The controller is probably looking for a 'arc established' signal from the welding equipment.

  • Dear Graeme,

Then how to remedy it? How do i know if my welding machine is working properly. At this current state my welding machine won't weld. It only gives me 12 V and 16 ampere. Not enough to do welding on stainless steel 0.8mm . And it is giving the machine AW_IGNI_ERR message and causing the robot only trying to trigger for 3 times.

    thanks

  • Hi, in the plant that I work we use Fronuis equipment, and in robot cell we use a ROB 3000 for each for all TPS 5000, that give us the signal that the contact from the wire, steel and ground is OK. We also control the trigger and so one..... check this part from ESAB equipment, check cables and connections and some digital input to look for the problem.

  • Our welding machine is using ESAB ARISTO W8.

I measure the continuity of the connection between ESAB, unit to weld(UTW), and robot.
    Here is the result:
    1. The cable (+) from ESAB is connected ot UTW and ground of the Robot and the UTW.
    2. The cable (-) from ESAB is connected to the wire feeder head.
    3. Between the (-) from ESAB and ground there is a resistance of 108 ohm.
    4. Ground for Robot and ESAB is connected to the ground building.

Do you think my configuration of welding cable is correct and save already?

    Thankyou and regards,

  • Is the error an earth fault? if so place a rubber pad under the welder we had this problem and it fixed it . I know it sounds crazy but if your power supply is not isolated from the frame of the cell you can get all kinds of problems .
