 I recently bought an abb 6400 robot. I am getting mixed answers on what controller I actually have. some say m97, some say m98, s4, sfc? I am looking for a definite answer to this as I need to move forward on this journey.

That serial number is an M97 S4C style controller

Thank you! Can you tell me what version of robotstudio I can use ? Can I hook my PC directly to the controller and how? Again, these questions seem silly but I have had such mixed answers.

I believe  version 5.14.03 should work absolutely fine...:)
