Smart Component Color / Highlighting

To whoever can help,
I am trying to use smart components to create adjustable geometry in order to use standard libraries for different applications and am struggling with two main things.
1) Is there a way to change the color of a generated part, for instance a Linear Extrusion, from the default grey color?
2) Can you prevent hidden components of a smart component from highlighting when selected?
