RSO/ Connecting to Service Port

Hello Everyone,
I am very new to RobotStudio and have the Online version. I cannot connect to the controller via my PC. I have tried DHCP and manually entering in the IP address. My PC doesn't even recognize the service port and says "cable not connected". I noticed the IP address in the flexpendant says 192.168.125.1 and the error message I get when trying to add a controller to RSO says the IP address needs to be 192.168.125.[2-255].

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Robot Service port is 192.168.125.1, your PC that you are attempting to connect with needs to be 192.168.125.[2-255].

  • Great, Thanks Thomas J! I will try to connect using digits 2 and higher. If this doesn't work do you have any other suggestions?

  • Okay, I tried 2-5 and 100 and DHCP with no luck.
  • I also had kind of same problem.. I think better you try to contact with the site owner i mean the author in contact us option. :)

  • Might be cable, connection from Service Port to Main CPU in robot cabinet or your PC is set with FireWall or HIP Protection that blcoks the required ports required to communicate with the IRC5 robot controller -

If HIP Protection - there should be a log available that indicates what address and applications are being blocked - check this!!

Disable all firewalls on your PC and chheck your port settings to be sure there are no firewall or protection that may block UDP ports from operating.

Is your Robot Studio on your PC earlier version than what is installed on the robot controller? Check to be sure that version of RSO is equal or later than RobotWare version installed on the controller.

  • The RobotStudio Operating Manual contains a chapter on how the firewall should be configured, see below:

If you have a laptop, try disabling the WiFi connection temporarily (if active). There is usually a switch on the side of the laptop to disable the radio. In some rare occasions we have seen that it has had an impact on the ability to connect to an RC.

  • I figured out my problem. The software has not been registerd or activated. This is great because I do not have the CD with the 25 character key to activate it. Does anyone have very detailed instructions how to do this manually?

    Thanks again for everyone's help.
  • You should not need to register to connect to a controller. The 'Add controller' function is part of the basic functionality that is free of charge. But if you connect via the LAN your controller system must have the RobotWare option PC-interface. The option is not needed when you connect via the service port. When connecting via the service port, you need to have a cross-over Ethernet cable.

  • I see. I am running out of ideas then. I have tried connecting to the service port with DHCP and static (192.168.125.2), I have disabled all firewalls and anti-virus software, I have tried crossover and ethernet cables with no success. I have been able to connect to other devices statically using same equipment. The only message I get is "Network Cable is Unplugged". Even my IT guy cannot connect.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • Is the version of RobotWare in the robot controller newer than whats installed on your PC... this also stops the connection. download the latest version
  • Moving to RobotWare forum.

  • All,

Finally figured out the problem. Needed to go in to controller ans swap cables around. the service port cable was not connected to the computer unit.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!

  • Thanks. Pointing out that section in the op manual was helpful as I was having the same trouble. Appreciate it. Smile
