Alternate solution to switch between AUTO/MAN
in RobotStudio
Hi all
We use IRB 1600's in our machines for a loading /unloading application. In our machine HMI we have some options to modify robot positions etc. However, this require running back and forth to the cabinet to switch the key from auto to manual and vice versa..What we would like to have is for the robot to follow the machine auto/man switch..
Is there a software solution for this?(probably not..) I know there are separate panels to buy, but they wont fit our machines..

Hi Frans,Going to manual mode for jogging the robot is a safety feature, since it requires the use of the safety grip.So with that said, could you clarify the steps that the operator goes through to modify a position? This since it sounds like you could add a risk to the operator by circumventing the key switch.John

Not talking about bypassing the switch but to put the switch somewhere else. Sure , this is easily done, but doing so may interfere with the CE of ABB's cabinet. There should be a optional solution for this. Put the Auto/man wiring next to the autostop wiring for external handling, for example..Our solution to modify the positions is safe. Its always done in manual mode.0

Hi FransYou can connect an external switch to the connector A21.X9 in the robot controller. See electical drawing of the cabinet 3HAC024480-005.Best regardsMarcel0

Hi Frans,You can update RobTargets via the RAPID program is this a (safe) option?RegardsGraeme0

Marcel: Thank you, however I am looking for a solution only regarding the auto/man switch. The external panel includes also emstop and motors on. This external panel is simply too big to fit anywhere on the machine. I know it also comes with components mounted only on a front plate, but this will also not fit our panel.. What we could do is to unmount the keyswitch on the robot cabinet and extend the wires and move it to our panel. But this will probably interfere with ABB's CE labelling. At this point we have requested a solution from ABB.graemepaulin: The robtargets are not just given their new values from the operator, but we have a routine that is called up from our HMI, with dialogue on the flexpendant. Operator must jog to correct position and then start the program, then the robtarget is re-defined depending on its new position and returned to home position. Everything done in manual mode.0
