PLC comm:Ethernet/IP MastrSlave vs FieldbusAdaptor

We have a controller here with the Ethernet/IP Master/Slave option. We need to connect to a PLC. Can we do this with the Ethernet/IP Master/Slave option? Or do we need the Ethernet/IP Fieldbus Adaptor option?

I've read the M/S manual; I can't tell whether it is possible or not.

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello,

Yes, with the Ethernet IP M/S option you can connect I/O to a PLC.  The Ethernet cable will run either from the LAN port of the controller to the PLC or from the Ethernet Board (Hardware option 905-1) to the PLC.

The PLC must have an Ethernet IP module.

You will have to decide if the PLC is Master or if the IRC5 is Master.  If the PLC is synchronizing the cell, then normally the PLC is master and the IRC5 is the slave.  If the PLC is running the process equipment, then normally the IRC5 is the master.

Signals will have to be defined both in the PLC and in the IRC5 with matching unit-mapping addresses.

    Kind Regards,

  • Thanks for the info.
Taking a fresh look at the manual, I see what you mean. The set-up process is clearly laid out in section 3.3.2.
