Processing Time by IF..THEN..ELSE

Fully aware that every command takes a finite processing time, is there a more time efficient way of choosing between two actions? In my case, a decision between which TriggIO point (Output) to be set, dependant on which IO unit is in use.  I was considering making the decision via Cross Connections, but I think I'll hit the limit of 100 connections...

It is the choice between a duty and standby unit.
