Mediapool contains the software of the robot and the virtual controller. It's what you use to create a "System" in robotstudio and is installed from the option "Robotware" on the DVD that robotstudio is supplied with. It contains more but it's the simple explanation.

You need a robotware version to use the virtual controller in Robotstudio, the same or newer as the version of the station you are opening. If you want to just create a new station with a robot.

Create a new empty station and then in the ABB Library (top bar to the left) you click on the part with the dropdown arrow symbol and you'll get a list of robots.

Click on a robot you want, it will then be put into the station and is ready as a robot, it however have not got a controller connected to it. From the "Robot System" dropdown button pick the first option "From Layout". You will be asked to name it and asked where to place it on the harddrive and what robotware version you want, if this is blank you will need to install RobotWare that's on the DVD.

Click next, it will as for the robot you want to add to that system (just click next as you only have one robot).

You will now be asked for options you want to add to the robot in form of software and the like, click Finish here first time to get started.

The system will now boot up and you will see the progress in the windows down to the right. When you've done this you are ready to go to controller to change IO settings and more and from the Rapid for programming the robot in the RAPID language (there is a reference manual on the Documentation cd called RAPID Reference for info on available commands and a syntax explanation.
