I am not expert in communication and don't now how to help you. But it sounds as if you are getting a RAPID error. Have you added the RobotWare option to your system?

If you are trying to tie this into a SCADA system or generic IPC (WonderWare for example), you need to install the ABB OPC Server on the PC. Ensure that that the robot and PC are on the same subnet, and make sure you can ping the robot from the PC terminal. If you can, the OPC server you installed on the IPC should detect the robot controller. When you open that controller, you see a list of your RAPID variables that are in your modules. From there, you can choose a variable, and link it to the address of a PC button or other address. I did this connecting an IPC running RSLogix 5000, and for example, in my RAPID code, I linked my bCycleStart boolean to the address for the CycleStart Button on the HMI.I hope that helps!0

And just to clarify, I meant to put "(WonderWare for example)" next to "SCADA system", an example of a generic Industrial PC would be what I used, a PanelView 1000 connected to an L3 PLC. I linked some buttons, and some strings from the robot to display on the HMI. You can only do that using the OPC server (as far as I know).-Brian0
