Connecting Multiple sensors to IRC5 compact controller

How to connect multiple analog/digital sensors to IRC5 controller? The XS7 port is utilized by the Banner vision system that was bought along with the robot. What are the hardware and software provided/required to connect multiple sensors directly to the controller? Or is it better to connect the sensors to the computer externally, and then connect it with the robot?

    We are connecting them to an external I/O board which is then connected via DeviceNet to the IRC5 controller. This of course requires a DeviceNet board to be installed in one of the PCI slots.
