Communicate to PM via Ethernet (from PLC)

  • Hi,

I need to communicate through TCP/IP from a PLC (Allen Bradley - Control Logix) to Pickmaster. There is not a lot of infos in the PM User Book.

Does anyone have ever done it? Can we communicate directly from the PLC to Pickmaster via port 1700? Can we communicate throug a private Network from the PLC and not with the same as the LAN for the robots communication? Wich Protocol to use?

I need more infos in the way to communicate via Ethernet...if you done it or can answer my question...thank you!

  • Hi Nick!

We have done this with Siemens and Omron PLC. And also with small VisualBasic -program. Documentation is not very clear but you can find all the necessary information from PM User Guide, Chapter 8, Remote Integration Services. Port is 1700. PickMaster -system is sensitive, so you need to be careful if you connect e.g. office network to same LAN. I must say that work was hard to get that RIS work with PLC...  image

  • Hi Pasik,

I understand that I need a kind of "patch" to be able to communicate from a PLC to RIS. This "Patch" will control the communication. It means that is not a direct "talk" from PLC and RIS. Do you think that something like OPC server will work???
