How to generate mesh on an object surface

I have studied about the mesh function in the ADDIN. I don't know if my understanding is right or not. The mesh function in ADD is about generate a mesh by user rather an automatic mesh generation function. 

I'm wondering if I can generate mapped mesh directly and automatic on a surface of object.
